This official sanctioning confirms that WER will operate in alignment with World Rugby’s highest standards and regulations on the professional level, paving the way for a new era in professional women’s rugby. The partnership between USA Rugby and WER underscores both organizations' commitment and collaborations on long-term success for professional women’s rugby in the U.S. WER’s season also marks an thrilling start to a benchmark year for women’s rugby as new and veteran USA Eagles take the field in the lead up to the Rugby World Cup in 2025.

Pinto Capital is a sports M&A financing company, specialising in brokering sports investments UNITED STATES – Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) is delighted to announce the appointment of Pinto Capital LLP as strategic finance advisors and partners as the league progresses into Series A. With the boom of women’s sports valuations in the United States and in the United Kingdom creating exciting new opportunities, Pinto Capital is the ideal partner to support WER’s continued growth for many seasons to come. Pinto Capital is a sports M&A financing company, specializing in brokering sports investments, founded by former investment banker and hedge fund owner Laurie Pinto. Pinto Capital has been responsible for brokering ownership deals across the sports spectrum from the Premier League to the National League as well as wider work in (the) Bundesliga, USL and more. In October 2024, Pinto Capital announced the first sale ever of a county cricket team to an international group, after advising and brokering the sale of Hampshire County Cricket Club to GMR Global Pte Ltd. In January, it was also announced that Pinto Capital LLP started working with Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) to explore financing options to fund the County’s future development plans. “We are extremely excited to be working with the team at Women’s Elite Rugby to help drive the commercialisation of the sport as a whole,” said Pinto Capital Founder Laurie Pinto. “Rugby is one of the leading women’s sport - from rising social media stars to growing grassroots participation - and we look forward to taking it to new heights.” Working with WER was the perfect fit for Pinto Capital, with the growing interest and popularity of women’s rugby among the masses. Coming off the 2024 Paris Olympic Games where the USA Eagles took a Bronze medal, interest in women’s rugby spiked in the US with USA Club Rugby noting a spike of 64% in registered members for the 2024-2025 season. Men, women, non-binary and gender-diverse individuals all saw an increase in participation and registration within the organization after the Paris Olympics with women making up 45% of new players . Women’s rugby valuation is on the rise as businesswoman and entrepreneur Michelle Kang, who has invested in various women’s sports entities including the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Washington Spirit, donated $4 million to USA Rugby 7s team. In the UK, women’s rugby is also growing with Sports England highlighting that the number of women playing rugby has grown from 25,000 to 40,000 from 2017 to 2022 . Particularly, US superstar IIona Maher has seen her stardom pay off overseas, since joining the Bristol Bears, she debuted to a sold out crowd of 9,240 fans which was double their previous crowd. Maher’s valuation continues to soar as she recently signed a multi-year deal with Adidas , demonstrating that rugby players can be featured on the world stage as global ambassadors alongside other sport athletes. Happy #PDLWednesday! Did you think we forgot? This week we’re featuring Hope Cooper (she/her), a hooker with the All Blues of the WPL!
Today, Hope is reminding us all of the importance of the #ProudlyDifferentLeague: “Women’s+ sports are so important because they are an outlet for individuals to represent themselves in their truest form. I love rugby because it is a sport in which grit and determination are deciding factors in the outcome of a game, and because it truly is a team sport in which every player, staff member, and supporting individuals (fans, partners, community members, etc) are necessary for the game to grow. The time for Women’s+ sports is NOW and it is beyond time for them to take center stage. I love being able to help grow a sport that has given me community and lasting friendships, as well as endless opportunities to learn and grow as a person. I look forward to this era of growth and expansion as we see organizations such as the WNBA thrive and show that the world WANTS to follow Women’s+ Sports, they just need to be provided the opportunity.”
And now to bring out the all of our inner theater kids, Hope has a timely question for you: are you an Elphaba or Glinda? Drop your thoughts 👇
This #PDLWednesday, we’re celebrating Gianna Solomon, a hooker with the @cograywolves of the WPL!
As we head into the holidays, Gianna wants everyone to remember that “women’s rugby provides an incredible space where athletes of all shapes and sizes can dominate the field, and thrive through their own skill, strength, power, and mental fortitude. It’s also a place where lifelong bonds and friendships are forged, completely exceeding the game itself. However, as athletes of all sports, we must continue to challenge societal expectations and break free from outdated ideas of what women’s sports “should look like.” Increasing the visibility of ALL women+ in sport and celebrating the athletes who redefine strength and resilience each day is essential. When we are seen, perceptions of femininity are reshaped, and future generations are inspired to embrace their own potential. We can show that in sport, strength, no matter its form, has a place.
Women’s rugby is the way forward.”
And now perhaps the most important question of all: Do you hang your toilet paper over or under?
#ProudlyDifferentLeague #womensrugby #womenssports #rugby
Mabuhay! It’s another #PDLWednesday with Omi Carrillo (she/her), who plays wing for the @allbluesrugby of the WPL! As a Filipino-American, Omi also plays with the Magandaquins (@magandaquins_7s), a North America-based Filipina heritage team that also serves as a pathway program to the Philippines National Team.
As part of the #ProudlyDifferent League, Omi wants everyone to know that “rugby is a powerful tool for connection. It has allowed me to connect with other Filipino rugby players in the diaspora organically and to connect about the shared experience of being raised outside the motherland and the challenges that come with that. Rugby has always been family to me and a place where I can dream, create, express myself and find comfort with people driven by a similar goal. I have a deep and passionate love for my homies and am so happy to play a sport that provides community love that I think is missing in many people’s lives.”
One more thing to know about Omi is that her alter ego is named Chett, and yes, they are a frat boy and an absolute menace! Who’s your alter ego and what are they like?
It’s #PDLWednesday with Evie Oglesby (she/her), a prop with the @cograywolves of the WPL.
Here in the #ProudlyDifferentLeague, we recognize that our impact extends far beyond the pitch. Evie may be one of the first to play professional women’s+ rugby in the US, and she certainly won’t be the last. “Supporting women’s sports now is essential for the next generation of athletes. Growing up, I always looked up to female athletes and it is incredible how much the stage has grown across so many different women’s sports. I don’t think I would have as much of a passion for playing sports without having role models to look up to, so it is amazing that the exposure has expanded so much in the past few years and I can’t wait to watch as it continues to grow.”
Now it’s time to have some fun! Evie wants to know what you’re choosing on a Friday night: movie night 🎥 or game night 🎯?
#PDLWednesday is here again, featuring Sheila Decker (she/they), a lock with the @cograywolves of the WPL! As the 2024 Recruitment Director for the Gray Wolves, she helped the team to back-to-back national championships on and off the pitch. In our #ProudlyDifferentLeague, we celebrate athletes like Sheila everyday who go beyond the game and epitomize the hustle.
For change-makers like Sheila, “there is no blueprint for what an athlete should look like. Sport is for everyone; if you have air in your lungs and a goal in your mind then there is a team, event, or competition out there for you and with it a community of people who will support you unconditionally. It’s never too late to learn a new skill or to make new friends.”
Your turn! Sheila’s curious whether you’re more of a cat person or dog person? Chime in below 👇
