  • VP of Business Development (Various Markets)

    Women's Elite Rugby (WER) is now accepting applications for Vice President of Business Development for markets in New York, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco/Sacramento and Boston. 


    Candidates must be currently located in, or willing to relocate at own expense, to one of the aforementioned markets. 


    WER is the newest women’s professional league on the US landscape. Formed as a single-entity league, WER is focused on delivering an entertaining brand of rugby to the US market and providing the highest standard of rugby available to our players. 


    In collaboration with WER Leadership, the VP Business Development is an execution-driven ‘doer’ who owns how the entire WER experience in their market comes to life. You’ll sell sponsorships, bring value to WER partners through real activation, and help fill seats with smart, local ticket strategies. You’re the commercial face of WER in-market and the person our sponsors, community leaders, and fans actually know.


    What you’ll do


    • Build relationships with local and regional brand partners, from first meeting to signed sponsorship deals
    • Lead sponsor activation in-market, making sure partners receive the full benefits of a partnership with WER
    • Build and run local ticket plans, group sales, community nights, and partner bundles
    • Represent WER with confidence in front of stakeholders like chambers of commerce, local businesses, civic groups, and community leaders
    • Coordinate with WER’s central team on messaging, inventory, and league-wide partner needs

    What we’re looking for


    • Proven sales track record (sponsorships, partnerships, media, sports, or other relationship-led selling)
    • Comfortable presenting to rooms that include CEOs, small business owners, city leaders, and everyone in between
    • Strong local network builder, you can open doors and you follow through
    • Organized, self-directed, and happy being judged on outcomes
    • Sports experience helps, but sales ability matters more

    Must be comfortable working in the evolving world of an emerging sports league

  • Assistant Coach (Boston or New York)

    Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) is now accepting applications for Independent Contractors to work as Assistant Coaches to support team operations in  Boston and New York. Candidates must be excited to work in a startup league while supporting the foundation for the future.


    WER is a single-entity, women's rugby league competition focused on delivering an entertaining brand of rugby to the US market and providing the highest standard of rugby available to our players. All teams are centrally owned, providing operational efficiencies and shared best practice among its member teams.


    In collaboration with the Head Coach and Team Management, the Assistant Coach will support the development and execution of team strategy, player development, and game-day operations. The Assistant Coach will focus on specific technical areas of the game while supporting the overall team culture and vision established by the Head Coach.


    Specific Duties: Leadership (Support team vision, values, standards, and protocols established by the Head Coach and WER, Model team values and standards, Build strong relationships with players and staff); Technical Coaching (Lead specific technical areas as assigned, Design position-specific training sessions, Provide detailed technical feedback); Team Preparation (Assist in training plans, Support strength and conditioning programs, Contribute to game plan development); Player Development (Provide regular feedback, Support player leadership development); Game Day Operations (Support match day protocols, Provide real-time technical feedback, Assist in managing tactical changes).


    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma (or equivalent)
    • World Rugby L1 Certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
    • 2+ years coaching experience at senior club level or higher
    • Demonstrated expertise in at least one specific area of the game
    • Must be eligible to work within the United States
    • Must pass all customary background checks
    • Safesport Certification (or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire)
    • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
    • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (or equivalent experience)
    • World Rugby L2 Certification
    • Playing experience at high performance level
    • Previous experience in professional rugby environment
    • Demonstrated success in player development
    • Experience with video analysis software and performance analysis tools

  • WER Head of Game Day Operations & Community Engagement (Various Markets)

    Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) is seeking a Head of Game Day Operations & Community Engagement to lead all home match operations, fan experience initiatives, and community outreach for a WER market.


    WER is the newest women’s professional rugby league in the United States, delivering elite competition while building a sustainable and engaging future for the sport. As the U.S. prepares to host the 2033 Women’s Rugby World Cup, WER plays a critical role in growing rugby’s visibility, professionalism, and fan connection.


    This role is ideal for a hands-on, highly organized leader who thrives in a startup sports environment and is passionate about creating exceptional live events and meaningful community relationships.


    Specific Duties:


    Game Day Operations

    •  Lead all operational planning and execution for five (5) home matches per season.
    • Serve as the primary on-site operations lead on game days.
    • Develop and manage detailed run-of-show schedules for all home events.
    • Partner with local venues to ensure smooth and efficient game day operations.
    • Create and maintain a visiting team manual with venue-specific and game day information.
    • Coordinate in-game programming including curtain raisers, halftime shows, post-game events, autograph sessions, and youth engagement activations.

    Staffing & Volunteers

    • Recruit, train, schedule, and manage part-time staff and volunteers for game day roles (ticketing, parking, guest services, security coordination, concessions support, visiting team liaison, etc.).
    • Establish partnerships with local colleges and organizations to source interns and seasonal support staff.

    Fan Experience & Engagement

    • Ensure a consistent, welcoming, and engaging fan experience across all touchpoints.
    • In collaboration with the Vice President of Business Development and league office, support fan engagement initiatives, in-venue activations, and fan zones.
    • Work with the VP of Business Development to ensure accurate delivery of sponsorship and partner assets on game days.

    Community Engagement

    • Coordinate community outreach initiatives including player appearances, tabling events, camps, clinics, and grassroots programs.
    • Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and community partners to increase awareness and attendance.

    Additional Duties

    • Support broader team operations as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a Sport/Event/Recreation Management or other related field
    • 1-3 years of event management experience

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently in a startup environment
    • Collaborator, effective listener and solution-oriented
    • Ability to lead in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
    • Must be able to lead a diverse group of people
    • Proven ability to engage with fans and create an engaging sports entertainment experience.

    Preferred Education/Experience:

    • 2-3 years of event management experience in professional or collegiate level sports.

  • Team Manager (Chicago)

    Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) is now accepting applications for a Team Manager. Candidates must be excited to work in a startup league while helping build the foundation for the future of women’s professional rugby.


    WER is the newest women’s professional league on the U.S. landscape. Formed as a single-entity league, WER is focused on delivering an entertaining brand of rugby to the U.S. market while providing the highest standard of play for its athletes. With the U.S. slated to host the 2033 Women’s Rugby World Cup, WER is positioned to set the tone for both the competitive and business success of the sport.


    Position Purpose

    The Team Manager supports team operations by coordinating logistics, managing equipment and apparel, ensuring smooth game-day execution, and assisting players and staff with both in-market responsibilities and travel for away matches.


    Specific Duties

    Home (In-Market) Duties

    • Manage and distribute team apparel, including practice and game kits.
    • Manage and inventory team equipment, including practice balls, cones, pads, and other rugby gear.
    • Coordinate and/or transport equipment for practices.
    • Support weekday practices as needed, in coordination with the coaching staff.

    Travel (Out-of-Market) Duties

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for urgent travel-related matters (flights, bus transfers, etc.), coordinating directly with a Destination Sports Travel (DST) representative.
    • Create and distribute travel itineraries in coordination with DST.
    • Oversee travel logistics, including flights, hotels, and ground transportation.
    • Coordinate and purchase team meals during travel.
    • Coordinate and secure spaces for team meals and meetings.
    • Ensure all players and staff arrive at and depart from events safely.

    Game Day Duties

    • Coordinate and/or transport equipment and jerseys for matches.
    • Handle game-day paperwork, including rosters, substitution cards, and tracking scores, tries, kicks, and other key statistics.
    • Communicate and coordinate dietary restrictions for meals.
    • Coordinate and purchase game-day fuel for the locker room.
    • Assist in identifying and transitioning individuals to post-game interviews.
    • Oversee jersey washing and ensure uniforms are properly maintained.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, or a related field preferred.

    Work Experience

    • Experience in team management, sports administration, or event coordination is preferred.

    Other Experience

    • Background in rugby or sports logistics is a plus.

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Must currently reside in the Chicago area.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to problem-solve and manage logistics in a fast-paced environment.
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask under pressure.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with players, coaches, and staff.
    • Reliable and able to commit to all five (5) travel weekends.

    Preferred Education/Experience

    • Experience working in a professional or semi-professional sports environment.
    • Knowledge of game-day operations and statistics tracking.
    • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, or a related field.
    • Background in rugby preferred.
